How do you create an investment casting gating system?

An investment casting gating system differs from a standard sand casting system in that it not only guides the liquid metal into the channel cavity, but also acts as a bearing function on the wax module and shell, as well as the channel guiding pattern material in and out of the cavity. As a result, it is critical to design an investment casting gating system. If the design is not reasonable, it will have an impact not only on the quality of module assembly and demoulding, but also on the quality of cast iron castings, resulting in casting defects such as shrinkage cavity, etc.

When designing an investment casting gating system, we should keep the following requirements in mind:

1. When filling a cavity with liquid metal for easy oxidation alloys, we should fill as smoothly as possible to avoid oxidation and gas involvement. In investment castings with thin wall thicknesses, we must ensure proper filling while avoiding cold insulation and misrun.

2. Because the gating system also functions as a riser, we must ensure that the castings receive directional solidification and are fully fed in the casting solidification process to avoid shrinkage cavities or shrinkage in investment castings.

3. The gating system must be strong enough to prevent casting off during the shell-making process because it will support both the module and the shell.

4. We must keep the gating system smooth in order to remove the mold material because it will guide the mold material into and out of the cavity.
